XXX Feeding Ceramic Element with Iron
Earth and metals are basic elements in almost everything we see around us. The encounter between the two holds enormous potential for countless material, aesthetic, and functional possibilities. Metals have always been used in the world of ceramics and the combination of different elements lends itself to surprising effects. The possibilities of granting the material different values are endless. Black iron, or magnetite, is a common element found in almost all rocks. In the project, it was incorporated in slip casting and explored in a range of manipulations in the production process. Firing in various kilns allowed an examination of the iron oxidation process and the loss of its metallic properties. The rusting of the iron, the uncovering of layers, the color range, and diverse aesthetic and functional options are just the beginning.
