Water to the Edge of Soul
My soul is full, sometimes overwhelmed, with emotions, moving in the range that sprawls between control and release, like the water, an element that stretches between the peaceful and the powerful. Water is an element of creation in Greek mythology and is the source of all creatures. In my research I have focused on women’s figures, their bodies half human, half beast, such as Scylla, who immerses in poisonous bathwaters and her organs turn into a horrible monster. These figures are filled with emotions that they are expected to conquer or bear the toll of their bursting out, which marks a change to their exterior and interior. The collection is built with I have dyed and stained and designed in rounded lines, like the motion of waves of water. are items made with handmade thread work partially embroidered on a material that reacts to water and melts on contact with it. The threads follow the movement of the cloth, and sometimes seem to be dripping upon them, responding to the contours of the body or bursting out of it in an unconstrained movement. Materials: “vanishing” fabric (PVA), cotton and polyester threads, knit and synthetic fabric, textile dyes and ink Working techniques: dyeing, embroidery, thread sculpting
