The girl I was
project is about my experience as an only child to a single mother. This child had no one to raise her; she was lonely, mature for her young age, and carried great responsibility on her young shoulders. Like a plant, she absorbed everything that was available from her surroundings in order to grow and develop. The models combine layers of large and wide garments contrasted to small and shrunken garments that may or may not have provided the small child that I was with what she needed, or perhaps just made her growth and development that much harder. other things, I designed patterns inspired by the hexagon of chloroplast, fabrics dyed in coffee, which symbolizes the adult world and at the same time resembles soil and mud. Finally I seeded grass within the layers of the materials; I wonder whether these seeds received what they needed to grow and thrive, or whether they were and suffocated within the clothing. Materials: cotton, linen, silk, industrial knitwear, sawdust, cotton wool, acrylic, grass seeds, and coffee.
