My Home’s Beat

As the daughter of a woman of Yemeni origin who grew up in the melting pot of Kiryat Yam, a suburb of the city of Haifa, I absorbed throughout my childhood the multiculturalism specific to this region.y project concerns a vision of the world based essentially on the meeting between East and West within the framework of my cultural identity, built on my Yemeni roots and the American hip-hop culture in which I found myself culturally and politically.
 In my project I decided to express a postmodern understanding of reality, through the combination of shapes, textures, and patterns characteristic of the tradition of the radical hip-hop genre of music and ancient and traditional Yemeni music.
Through the encounters of the two, I tried to create those specific contemporary multicultural feelings and thoughts that are perceived as the new global reality of today. The unique rhythms of the collection create a kind of New Harmony between these different worlds, which sometimes also appears as disharmony. The break with tradition and return to the sources creates between them a Complex relationship which ultimately strengthens each of them. At the heart of the project is a protest, a political issue that intends to create an integrative meeting between these worlds that are forced to meet in postmodern times. Techniques: development of combined prints with Photoshop, repetitive printing on runner with sublimation combined with mesh handmade tassels and head accessories in woolen thread, necklaces, and gold coins Materials: synthetic and cotton fabrics.
