Local case of circular urban planning
The project offers a circular approach to urban planning in Jerusalem, in order to create an urban space that provides residents with a healthy and enjoyable living environment, and a system in which there is a synergetic relationship between the urban space and its by-products (waste). A circular approach to planning creates resilience from urban heat islands and flooding, and provides food security, in the face of the uncertainty of climate change and socio-political upheavals. The project examines three points on Jaffa Street in Jerusalem, and seeks to "change their urban code," in order to strengthen the connection between the buildings and public open-spaces. How? By a system of "urban pockets." An "urban pocket" is a garden or open-space within the city, defined by the surrounding buildings, each having functions set by the needs of each specific community. The "urban pockets" use water from natural purification systems, and combine local vegetation with urban agriculture
