Discontent of Design
Protesters empowerment tools In recent years we are witnessing an unprecedented civil awakening. All over the world, millions of protesters full of anger and passion take to the streets demanding change. Discontent of Design examines objects from the world of protest and offers the demonstrator new tools. In protests and demonstrations, we can see activists solving problems in creative ways, using improvised objects that create unique design values. Protest objects are not only functional but must be understood as part of a system that includes actions, rules, organization, symbols and spirit. While working on the project, I embarked on a personal journey as a demonstrator-designer in the world of physical and virtual protest, which led to a series of ideas based on these unique values. The ideas were collected into an open code platform that offers an accessible tool bank, which includes instructions so that each protestor can make their own objects. Advisor: Yaron Lobaton
