I wander through the space of the city and linger in twilight zones devoid of any functionality or substantial urban character. I choose to document quiet moments cut off from the city's busy energy. These moments bear witness to unexpected encounters which highlight distinct and contrasting elements that concurrently intertwine and battle for their respective presence and place. Thus, conflicting components such as monumentality and temporariness, man-made constructions and natural environments, become the materials that form the photographic fabric. In this attempt to explore the local culture, I document and emphasise on the one hand the space’s planning, organisation and meticulous regulation; and on the other, it's prevailing chaos and spontaneity. I also uncover many aesthetic sights: encounters of shapes and colors emphasizing accidentally-created formalistic elements. The photography itself isn’t carefully planned in advance, and most of the ideas it expresses have been gathered subsequently. The process in which images are examined for some time after they have been photographed is of great importance, for it allows me to emotionally disengage from the photographic moment and to examine them with an objective eye.
